Upstairs Gallery Bulletin #7 (6/6-6/12) “Joy Joy Shock-T’s!!”
Guys! June is busy! In the past few weeks i’ve become intimately familiar with the bike corridor on Damen between Irving Park and Foster. I’ve been looking forward to biking everywhere again since the weather turned last October. As is the same every year biking season has found me woefully unprepared. Hopefully i’ll find my sea legs and stop wheezing every block.

Joy Joy Tragedy!
Wednesday - Joy Joy Tragedy (June 8, 15, 22) 10pm-11:15pm, Totally Free!
We’re extremely lucky to have Kevin Mullaney and Amrita Dhaliwal with us for Wednesday evenings this June. Kevin is a valuable force for good in the improv world, running both the Improv Wiki and IRC. In addition he often posts his brand of golden improv wisdom over at his Tumblr (if you are an improviser you better be following.) I can’t thank these folks enough for doing some shows with us. Some more info about the show:
- Everything is improvised… except what is not. In this mostly improvised show, Amrita Dhaliwal and Kevin Mullaney mix the spontaneous with one scripted scene. Find out what happens when the playwright runs out of words and the characters take over. Which scene was written? Can you tell the difference?

Shock T’s Benefit Show!
Friday- The Shock T’s Benefit Show- June 9 - 8:30-10pm, Free ($ suggested donation of whatever)
There are few moments i love more than immediately following the Shock T’s opening number “What’s going on with us today?” and i know i have a whole show of theirs to look enjoy. These guys are musical sketch comedy done right. They are currently raising money to get into the NACA conference and eventually tour colleges. We’re super happy to act as a stop along there way to College Entertainment Committee Super $$$$$$.
Opening are friends Eleanor, Computer, and Sovereign. This shits going to be the real deal, stop by and kick a couple of bucks their way!

Some top pals stop by and perform the quintessential improv form the Harold every Saturday in June. First show was last Saturday and was super fun. Come check it out some time! Featuring Some Dinosaur, NBC’s the Voice, and Children of the Eagle.

Farewell The K.O.P!
Every Tuesday in May The K.O.P graced the stage of the Upstairs Gallery with a different guest, and every week they were amazing. In the final week they were joined by Lyndsay Hailey and performed scenes based off of an audience conversation. This essentially turned into a group therapy session, the room got real honest, and the scenes were multifaceted and phenomenal. There is talk about them doing something again down the road. I hope they do! We’ll miss you Phil and Mel!
